Stick foundations are something I have never entertained as I always thought they wouldn’t work on my skin type and just not be for me. I saw L’Oreal were releasing the Infallible Shaping Stick Foundation. Now I LOVE other products from their infallible range, the foundation, primer and powder are so good. The foundation stick caught my eye and I picked it up as soon as it was released but am I glad I did?
The line is huge, they have released not only foundation sticks but cream highlighters and powders. They also say some of the shades in the collection can be used to contour, bronze and highlight. The new releases include:
Five Infallible Primers including:
Mattifying, Anti Redness, Luminous, Pore Refining & Anti Fatigue
Four Highlighting Sticks
Two Blush Sticks
Twelve Foundation Shaping Sticks
I decided to pick up three of the foundation shaping sticks. I got one as foundation, one to contour and one to bronze with. I have been obsessed with cream bronzing and contouring at the moment. I don’t ever use cream blush.
When swatching the foundation shades I managed to find my perfect match. I have a pink undertone but struggle with drugstore foundations as alot have yellow undertones. The L’Oreal Stick Foundations have a mixture of neutral, pink and yellow undertones which I thought was really good. I also managed to find the perfect contour shade. One thing I did notice is if your skin tone is medium-dark you won’t be able to find a contour shade, you will find a foundation and maybe a bronzer shade but no contour shades. The darker shades are more on the warm side but I managed to find one shade which had a cooler undertone and it works perfect for pale skin tones as a contour.
The packaging is simple in a plastic tube with a clear lid. You get 9g of product which is the same that you get in the Tarte Foundation Stick. When I swatched the product I was shocked at how creamy it felt. When it comes to foundation sticks I always had the impression they would feel dry but this one doesn’t at all. I do like a medium to full coverage and this gives a medium finish. I usually tend to put three stripes across my cheeks, one or two on my chin and one across my forehead. When applying this product I always use a brush. I find I get more coverage when using a brush compared to a beauty sponge.
I use a brush I got from Tarte but it isn’t on the website anymore. I recommend using a dense but with a slight angle to it. Using a dense brush ensures it doesn’t soak up product and you get maximum coverage. One similar to the one I have is the Sigma Baking Kabuki Brush which you can get from Cult Beauty.
The formula of this stick foundation is impressive, it blends out easily and quickly. If I want a little extra coverage I can apply more product and it doesn’t look cakey. It feels as if you aren’t wearing any makeup. It makes my skin look flawless. My skin type is combination, I am extremely oily on the outer corner of nose and on my chin, I get slight dry patches on my chin and sometimes my cheeks then the rest is normal. This doesn’t cling unless I have a bad breakout, but I don’t tend to wear this when I am breaking out really bad.
It has a semi matte finish, it does have a healthy glow to it but I do have to set it with powder with having oily areas. I use this with the Too Faced Primed & Peachy Mattifying Primer and also The Ordinary Silicone Primer and it applies so well! I do find it works best with different primers. I find any gel like primers it tends to bunch up.
The contour and bronzer ones are the same, they are creamy and blend out effortlessly. It takes seconds. I usually get oily around my nose after wearing a foundation for 4-5 hours but not with this one! I wear this all day at work, I apply it around 6.30am and get home at 5.30pm, eleven hours later and it still looks flawless. I have the smallest amount of oilyness but it doesn’t look bad at all.
Overall I love this product. I think the L’Oreal Stick Foundation is a new favourite. I have already used one up and already re purchased it! I have also seen people with dry skin say it works for them too.
